What we look at

Compute
EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda: instance families, sizes, schedules, autoscaling settings, spot eligibility.
Data stores
RDS, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, OpenSearch: instance classes, storage type, backup retention, read replicas.
Storage and transfer
S3 lifecycle and storage classes, EBS volumes and snapshots, NAT gateway and cross-AZ traffic, CloudFront.
Observability
CloudWatch logs and metrics retention, custom metrics, third-party agents duplicating each other.
Commitments
Savings Plans and Reserved Instances sized to your steady-state after rightsizing, not before.
